When the workers at Republic Windows and Doors were notified their factory would close in three days, they took matters into their own hands. The union work force seized control of the factory for 6 days to demand the severance they are by law owed. On the sixth day of their occupation, they won all their demands, and showed the world's working class a classic example of people power.

This short video from Labor Beat represents a fraction of our coverage of this historic event (something not seen in the USA for decades).

  • Excellent video! This event didn't get the national spotlight it deserves. I'm glad to see the strength of solidarity succeeding in these tough times.

  • This is a brilliant action by the workers and UE. Now the workers have won their back pay, vacation, and insurance through their actions and with the assistance of national solidarity demonstrations at Bank of America. Our job now is to make sure that this provides an example to other workers that only by fighting back collectively can we win and hold what should rightly belong to workers everywhere.
