The final entry in my series of reviews for games based on shows from the Disney Afternoon, Darkwing Duck isn't exactly a high note. Released in 1992, Capcom used a modified Mega Man engine to give life to the billed super hero/secret agent in an action/platformer that sits well with the source material.

For the most part, Darkwing Duck isn't a bad game, it just isn't that much fun. The game presents its challenge in ways common for its time. The enemies often crowd areas, and endlessly respawn should you move offscreen. They have defensive and offensive abilities that make normal encounters tedious and irritating, and this extends 10 fold for boss battles. Fights just drag on and on. To its credit, Darkwing Duck does have great graphics. The colors and sprite all look great.

While you could sit down and memorize the layout and enemy positions and eventually polish off Darkwing Duck (a methodology I personally don't care much for in gaming), there are much better games to do this with. There are much better games in general. Perhaps worthwhile for a big fan of the cartoon show, I think Darkwing Duck most likely won't be most peoples' cup of tea. It certainly wasn't mine.

  • Couldn't disagree more. It's no Mega Man, but it was a fun game. I got this for my birthday when it came out, and like you I was a Darkwing Duck fan too. The game has its flaws but it has great graphics, nice level design, good challenge, and decent music.

  • @Blacksun1942 Well, that's ok that you disagree. :) At least you know how to do so respectfully.

  • This is a decent game! It's not that hard!! Ya Mega Man is better but it's worth still playing!

  • I had just about every piece of DW merch when I was a kid including the gas gun. I think you had to fill it with vinegar then when you pulled the trigger it made a weird noise and some steam would come out of the barrel. I had to get another one because the vinegar would leak out of all the crevices and it reeked ofcourse. That was the dumbest idea for a toy ever... I had this game as well when it was new and I was like 8. I was so infatuated with DW that I couldn't tell how much it sucked.

  • I kinda like your reviews, cause ya complain about the flaws but yet ya still show the game lookin fun. Unlike all these avgn clones who jus show all the flaws and swear their nut off. Your reviews are more down to earth

  • Really liked this game. Sure it's not as good as megaman but it's still a very good game.

  • for me its a real good game but its all about Opinions i guess ^^

  • I love this game. Got it used last year.

  • I've never played this, but it looks like you need to time your shots a little differently. Especially in the first couple gameplay clips, you kept on unloading all of your shots on an enemy right when the enemy was blocking, instead of when the enemy was leaving itself open for retaliation. I can see how that would get annoying if every enemy is like that, but this doesn't look like that bad a game.
