Anecdotal evidence doesn't trump statistical evidence. With that being said, kudos for being one of the exceptions.

Glad you beat the odds, but one personal experience doesn't discount multiple others. Statistics take into account vast numbers of students. I teach low- and middle-income students and I mean no offense when I say there is a noticeable difference between their academic gains between Pre-K and 5th grade. That is not to say there aren't stand-outs, like you.

@GreenLiberationTV that is very true, but i guess its just the way i intepreted it. i think its also the fact that i switched to a better school at a young age and i fo have horrible disabilities wiith phonics, so i guess i see what you mean

I think were kidding ourselves if we think a vast majority of middle income children are progressing that much during the summer. I believe that only a fraction of these students will continue to progress over the summer. This may have applied back when you could afford a stay at home mother, but these days with both parents forced to work, these children are in the hands of babysitters most of whom won't be engaging in any great deal of educational activities. It's time to cut summer vacation!
