The Internet in Society: Empowering or censoring citizens?
Could the internet actually inhibit rather than empower civil society? Join Evgeny Morozov, 2009-2010 Yahoo fellow at Georgetown University, as he outlines the dramatically different ways in which the internet's potential can be utilised by citizens and regimes.
@rayofmoonlite I haven't been listening too carefully, but I think he may be implying that the west, too, employs such methods. Wiki Echelon or 'Room 641 A' -- interesting stuff.
This is great video that shows us the other side of the internet...one that we hardly seem to notice. However, it is a little suspect that the speaker seems to be referring to only certain kinds of countries when he talks about how political machines and governments use the internet for their benefit. Does he mean to imply that the "West" does not employ similar methods? After all, governments are "governments"..."democratic" or otherwise.

The establishment ( Evgeny Morozov ) is worried that individual thought and liberty can finally challenge the orthodoxy of the establishment.
