Sounds like something's wrong with his t-case...possibly needs adjustment of the linkage. Definitely not a Jeep thing, as all the Jeeps I've owned would engage smoothly into 4x4.
I'd love to see more vids of the Zuki!

Now if I had my TSL's on I think I would have climbed up in 2wd fine in the sammy. Also if you just easily make it everywhere you go its not as fun as if it makes you work for it. :^) We were just farting around with a few minutes after work.

His tires have some pretty good bite. I believe they are Goodyear wranglers mt/r's and are about 30-31". The jeep is stock and is not locked front or rear so a little slippage is to be expected when you get in the valley of the ditch where you have more weight on one side than the other. It was slick though. My first round through with the samurai I went in 2wd and straightened up to go directly up the hill and my locked rearend slipped. Once in 4wd it was fine but its locked up front too.

Street tires + tall wet grass = Brings the suck.
A cherokee of that vintage won't have locking hubs or a vacuum disconnect - the front driveline is always turning on those. Sounds like he didn't have the transfer case fully engaged at first.
With that said, I want to buy a Samurai. Should be a lot of fun and would fit places I can't fit my Cherokee. :)

Thats probably the case. I know he has really had to fiddle with the tx stick to get it in 4wd in the past. Must be a jeep thing. :^)

Yep. Good call. They do have a pretty nice tread for all terrain.
