This town is the last outpost on the way up to the Everest region. It probably inspired the Shangri-la myth. I joined 3 short video segments if it seems choppy.
Namche is awesome. You said that it's day 8 of the trek, so I assume you started from Jiri? Good on ya, if so. It's believed that only about 5% of those who trek into the Everest region now start from Jiri. The rest fly into Lukla. I did the trek a couple years ago, from Jiri, and I didn't meet a soul, save one old French guy and the locals. When I wandered into Namche, I was hairy, dirty, & smelly, and all the crowd who flew into Lukla were clean & proper. They lost experience in cleanliness.
Awsome place!!! :D I like villages built on big mountains!
