A short clip showing the last few seconds of my first attempt to vacuum infuse epoxy resin into a carbon fiber/foam-core laminate part for the Carbon Dragon sailplane. The vacuum infusion process allows the operator as much time as is needed to set up the composite layers and bagging film (making sure everything is in the right place and conforming to the shape of the mold (i.e. no bridging)) beore mixing and introducing the resin. It's amazing to see just how fast the resin wets out the part completely! With a traditional wet lay-up the operator must work quickly to get the part right before the resin starts to gell - tricky on large parts!
