Say you have a kid who plays golf, and he swings like Jim Furyk. He's pretty good, but his swing is definitely weird. Do you take him to a teacher to "fix" it, or do you leave it alone and see what happens? In the vast majority of cases, especially in this modern age, the answer is "make it better, make it follow the rules", whatever they are. But for every Luke Donald or Trevor Immelman or Sean O'Hair (classic swings), there are examples of the other end of the spectrum, the idiosyncratic "homemade" swings of Furyk, Bubba Watson, Ray Floyd, Lee Trevino. The fun thing is to look at all successful swings and see how they work.

  • What type of video editing software are you using? Is there free Gold video anaylsis software available? If so, could you tell me what it is?

    Thank you.

  • @BigGolfNutz It's V1. Go to V1golf.com and you can download the free home software, then upgrade it. I use the V1 Pro version, which is expensive. I have fixed cameras set up in my hitting bay and I can plug my camera directly into the computer and use the software with anything I have on tape.

  • that swing should be an encouragement to all golfers. While your swing may not be pretty, there's hope!!!

  • My uncle was right, his swing is ugly

  • He's not looping the club but rather elevating it with very little shoulder turn. This allows him to accelerate the club straight down rather then from an angle. He's also keeping a straight left wrist during the back swing which is the key to all this.

  • Love Jimmy!! my favourite player in golf today!!

  • Maybe his swing is different because he is on the range in the right one and not all my best swings are on the range. But when your competing in a tourdment i think all you take more of your time and care more.

  • I wonder how good a player Furyk is in trying a more "normal" swing.... I bet he'd still be off scratch or better (ignoring short game)

  • Tour Championship 2010 stats after 3 rds: 1st in GIR T-2nd Pars 3rd Driving Accuracy 1st- Fewest Bogeys (*no worse than bogey to this point, 3 bogeys total) T-8th Birdies T-1st Sand Saves 20th Driving Distance and he's right in the middle of the field for Putts/Rnd & Putts/Green. Just what my game lacks - consistency. He stands a good chance of winning it Sunday, Casey might catch him, doubt it. Or if one of the others gets real hot which is not likely at East Lake on Sunday.
  • 05' is also wen Furyk had hair lol

  • It's quite interesting to see how both of his legs are bent at the top of the swing...you don't see that with most tour players but Furyk's swing is not like most tour players. Good Analysis.
