Bangles are worn around the world. In some societies, the history of bangles dates back tothousands of years. When it comes to India, it is no different. Bangles are locally called "kangans", and they make an important part of Indian culture and traditions. These are circular in shape, and they are worn around the wrist like a bracelet.
Bangles come in all kinds of colors and metals, like gold, glass, plastic and wood. They can cost you from less than a dollar to thousands of dollars. Although bangles are mostly worn by women, but even men are known to wear bangles. A single bangle is rarely worn. They are worn in pairs; either on one wrist or on both. Historically, bangles are worn by Indian women as part of their traditions. A married woman is supposed to wear bangles for the healthy and long life of her husband, and right after her marriage, a woman is supposed to wear "chuda" for a few days. A "chuda" are these certain bangles. So, if you spot someone wearing these, you can make out that they have been recently married.
