There are five big mistakes people make while networking.

Number 1: They dont bring business cards. You must have business cards, plus a pen. A business card says you are serious about your business and you want to let people know how to get in contact with you.

Another mistake is people who give me someone elses card. The trick to avoiding this is to separate your incoming and outgoing business cards by pocket.

Another mistake people make is when they meet someone. They say, You probably dont remember me? What you should do is hold out your hand to shake theirs and repeat your name first. Dont set yourself up to embarrass yourself and the other person. Help them; give them the benefit of doubt.

Another big mistake is asking them to give first, before youve built the relationship. You always give first, and share first. This is the first principle of networking.

And finally, people have a low-impact sound bite. Heres how you develop a 30-second-sound, high-impact sound bite. Be sure to write it down and rehearse it. You must clearly state who you are, where you are from, what you do, and how you add value—not just how, but a quantitative evaluation of your value.

If you dont make these mistakes, you will be on your way to being a power-networker!

  • George is 100% right. I always send a follow up email when I meet anyone. I tell them it's great meeting them and if I can be of service anyway, please let me know. 99% of the time, I don't get a response. This is very sad since I know allot of amazing people. Very sad. The people who do respond are often on the ball. It blows my mind how inconsiderate people are... just blows my mind.

  • Great introduction to this book. I really like the equation he brings out. Saw this on a facebook friends page and I'm happy I tool the time to review it.

  • Great video on the basic and advance networking. Following these tips will grow your business. It has grown mines.

  • Good information for those who are involved in network marketing and in business. I find it is difficult for me to connect and maintain relationships sometimes! this is good stuff!
