The one bad part for Sam Mendes is that since this was his feature film debut, there was nowhere to go but down. Not that his other films haven't been good, but not critically acclaimed like American Beauty was.

@trixxgordon That's a bit harsh. Just because he hasn't done something oscar worthy like The Sixth Sense doesn't mean he's lost his mind. I don't see him blowing up Hospitals or something. He's actually a cool guy.

sure Sam Mendes has a great job in american beauty but I think somebody deserves more than him,and of course he is David Fincher! it's not really important who won oscar,Fincher,Nolan,Tarantino didn't win as a director,if they are not good at movie making i seriously know nothing about movies.

@Troboughbo I dont think Eyes Wide Shut is his weakest...I love that film, I think Sam Mendes deserved the oscar though.
