This is our morning routine, every morning since we got Marti last month. We have much to learn and thought we'd share what we've learned as we're learning it. First to show that anyone can do it if we're doing it. Secondly so others won't make our mistakes.

  • Get yourself some antibiotic spray (The purple stuff) for your goat's hooves~ It would really help with the healing process of that abcess~

  • @Purly Thanks. It was not an open/oozing sore so a topical probably wouldn't have helped. We have the purple stuff (Nitrofurazone Ointment). It was a "dent" for a couple of weeks but then was normal again. So much we have learned in the past year since getting Marti and we know we have so much more to learn.

  • could you also use this goat for packing if so what breed is she

  • @HorseyHow2Channel She's a registered Alpine. Currently, she's huge and due to give birth in the next couple of weeks.

  • don't seem to have much trouble with hooves, we have some concrete area in the pen where the goats are though. They look GOOD!!! We have 4 nubian girls, one of our little ones was naturally polled when she was born, one was not... We just let them grow. Our fence is made of cattle panels, and she can still get her head in and out easily, so no harm done.

  • @GoatHollow I like the concrete idea. My daughter is pushing for the dehorning because of her two little boys. Hubs is pushing for it so the Alpine, Marti, will stay dominate or have a chance with the grown Nubians. We're learning much, thanks.

Milk production has decreased the last week or so. Do you think it's the heat? Been in the 100s and 90s. I think we're giving her too much feed. She was producing better when she was grazing more.

  • That is so cool, that the goat acutally runs out of the pasture and onto the milking stand all by herself. Hmm just proves goats are very smart animals.

  • i use trimmers. i wonder if u r filing down a tad too short, that is a protection, that thick pad against sharp objects n rocks.up on a stand is essential :) great job!

  • On those abscesses, you can actually dig the hole out a tiny bit more, squirt LA-200 in it, wrap it and it will clear right up, works great for patches of hoof rot too.

  • Very pretty Alpine

  • Really like your video! I think you're doing a great job! We just got our first 4 goats, nigerian dwarves...need to do their feet...and as a horse farrier, I KNOW I'm making trimming their feet too complicated...your video was helpful! Thank you!
