Stanford fans know that the official Stanford fight song is "Come Join the Band." However, most probably do not know its origins. I found this videotape taken sixteen years ago (1993) of the Royal Guard fife and drum marching band playing this in England. Several former Stanford band members found out that this is "The New Colonial March," by R. B. Hall, composed in 1901, copyright by the John Church Co.

For a performance of the original march, go to this video:

The "Come Join the Band" music begins at the 1:22 mark.

  • After the game,

When Stanford Red has won the day,

    Praising her name,

Onto the field we'll force our way.

    And on the green,

Each man who joins the serpentine,

With might and main sings this refrain:

    Forever and forever Stanford Red!
