Alex Jones interviews Richard Stallman who is an American software freedom activist, hacker, and software developer. In September 1983, he launched the GNU Project to create a free Unix-like operating system, and has been the project's lead architect and organizer. With the launch of the GNU Project, he started the free software movement and, in October 1985, set up the Free Software Foundation.

Stallman pioneered the concept of copyleft and is the main author of several copyleft licenses including the GNU General Public License, the most widely used free software license. Since the mid-1990s, Stallman has spent most of his time advocating for free software, as well as campaigning against both software patents and what he sees as excessive extension of copyright laws. Stallman has also developed a number of pieces of widely-used software, including the original Emacs, the GNU Compiler Collection, and the GNU Debugger. He co-founded the League for Programming Freedom in 1989.

  • The problem with this interview is I don't think he really understands Richard Stallman's role in technology. He keeps asking Stallman about things he isn't really involved in.

  • It's clear that Alex has no idea what RMS is talking about

  • "First I have to correct a couple of things....."

    Oh, Richard. Never change <3

  • @agent0sephiroth You want proof, then check out how Stallman tried to steal the GNU C libraries from the original developer using backroom deals with other developers involved in their development, consummate yes men of Stallman's mind you. It is well documented on the Internet. As is the fact Stallman requires all developers who wish to have their project under the GNU umbrella support his vaporware OS HURD. If it was about freedom, then they should be able to choose whether to support HURD.

  • love this! was pointed this way by eyeearbrain.webs.com

  • What a douche!

  • @Zenettii No kernel, and utilities are absolutely useless files of compiled code. GNU's own OS HURD has been in development for far longer then Linux. Because of Stallman the control freak fascist it has gone no where. His points of view are about his controlling things, not about freedom. Hence trying to force GNU in front of Linux to steal credit. I have my own POV on these subjects. I am probably more of an independent thinker then you will ever be. Don't assume I am some sheep.

  • @TheSportCompact No utilities no OS because a Kernel alone is useless. No doubt Stallman is a paranoid hippie, but if you try to understand some of his point of views, you can maybe actually develop your own POV on subject matters such as Free Vs Paid for, security Vs Big Brother, instead of being a sheep and following other peoples beliefs.

  • People need to know this supposed crusader of software freedom is nothing more then a thief. He convinces developers to bring their projects under the GNU umbrella then runs them off, takes control of them, and then micromanages them to the point where they fall extremely behind the times. That is why Gnome is almost two decades out of date in its appearance and design for example. He is a real piece of work and if you support him, you support software fascism with him no different then Hitler!

  • The GNU operating system which gets used with Linux the kernel? Without a kernel you have no operating system because the kernel is the actual operating system. Way to go and steal credit for Linux again Richard you scumbag. I am an member of Open Source and Free Software, and have had in depth discussion with Stallman on Linux and his vaporware OS HURD. When I countered his credit stealing BS with facts, he resorted to calling me foul mouth names and using profanity because he is a complete ass

  • 7:53 - "I search-engined it."

    Idiot.
