this was the last few days of a severe freeze up that lasted all february and made february 1986 the second coldest of the 20th century.

  • If it ever gets that cold during winter these days, we get a severe weather warning, that's how much our climate has changed. A light snow flurry and everyone panics! I miss our proper winters

  • The first meeting when horse racing restarted after the Feb 86 freeze (and there was no all-weather racing then) was, quite unbelievably, at Catterick in North Yorkshire, usually one of the coldest parts of England.

  • Devon had 20cm of snow today, Uk gets snow quite often in Mar-April, and very common is graupel, something to do with seas being at their coldest. FromOct 08 to mid Feb 2009 it was colder than average, should get a hot summer
