NO money is tied to a precious money commodity, so ultimately no. The dollar might be the first to collapse, but don't expect the others to be fail proof.

Gold and silver would be your best bet.

You can buy ETFs and you can buy gold coins online and just about anywhere.

Do not claim that there is none left: there is NO such thing as a shortage of specie in a free-market. the said commodity might be expensive, but it's there. I.E., there's only one mona lisa, but there is NO shortage of them - if you wanna pay 80 billion bucks, you can (probably) buy it.

I couldn't agree more. Priority 1: Food Storage and water purification. Priority 2: Weaponry, at least 1 gun. Priority 3: Essential household items stocked for a years time - toilet paper, razors, just the stuff Peter was talking about. Priority 4: Gold and SILVER. For those without 'wealth' silver is a great way to go for stable money. Silver bullion ounces or pre-1964 silver coins ('junk' silver). I have some of both. Get $100 face of junk silver and 50 oz silver bullion before gold!
