Dio was an American heavy metal band led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio, formed in 1982 after he left Black Sabbath. In an interview, available on the special edition re-release of Holy Diver, Dio states that he never intended to begin a solo career. His intention was to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath member, drummer Vinny Appice. Naming the band Dio made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well-known at that time. Dio in Italian means "God."
The band has released ten studio albums and has had numerous line-up changes over the years with Ronnie James Dio being the only constant member. Guitarists have included Craig Goldy (most recent guitarist), Doug Aldrich, Vivian Campbell, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson.

Spent the night on the road
And never saw the miles go
Running away
I've got to get free from myself

How stories were made to be told
And here's the one that I know
I can't hide it anymore

There's evil on Queen Street

I saw the house in the dark
It seemed to say "come touch me
I've got a heart
Open the door to my soul"

Climb to the top of my stairs
And look into my windows
I can be your wishing well
There's no evil on Queen Street

Let me in
I can warm in the heat of your fire
It's no permanent sin to be bad
If you're sorry

Let me go - you're a promise that comes from a liar
I don't know - if I ever can wash all the evil away, hey

Struck a match at the dark
It screamed no, no I love you
Together we're strong
You always believed what I'd say, hey

But now the heat of a flame
Starts me to remember
There's no evil - no more evil
No evil on Queen Street

Just smoke in the air
No evil anywhere
No evil on Queen Street

  • Love DIO! He thought so deeply yet able to craft lyrics that however you interpret them, regardless what HE was thinking when He wrote them, He always said in interviews, was 'right'. This album came out two years before He was in Sabbath for the Dehumanizer album.

  • R0:00CK AND R0:00LL!

  • Fuck, I like the sound of the guitar on this album. This young bastard R. Robertson was good

    RIP R.J DIO

  • This song is the dictionary definition of awesome.

  • @PisauraXTX Much of Holy Diver can be interpreted as comparing religious zeal to drug addiction. The tiger represents a needle, etc.

  • @netrioter If that's true, this is just genius...An epic song about food poisoning!

  • @PisauraXTX i remember seeing him in an interview a long time ago and he mentioned this song was inspired by a case of food poisoning he got from a beef sandwich in a Christchurch, New Zealand restaurant on Queen Street.

  • @TheNuclearPistol sorry i meant 69, either way i can wait.
