*update* Yay! We're finalists! If you liked our idea, VOTE FOR US! ;D here's the link to the voting page: http://goo.gl/m6lsG
Cheers!
Our SpaceLab entry! FUNGI IN SPACE! We hope you like our idea!
In summary:
Our Question: How does microgravity affect the positioning of the hymenia in the Ganoderma Lucidum fungi?
Our Hypothesis: When in the microgravity environment, the Ganoderma Lucidum hymenia will position itself in no predictable orientation, with the stap (stem) growing in an unsystematic fashion, compared to that of Fungi on Earth.
Method: We intend to grow multiple spores on fixed pieces of Eastern Hemlock wood, in a humid environment. To measure this, sequential still images can be captured to observe the growth patterns and compare them to that of fungi grown on Earth.
Expected Results: We expect that the Fungi's hymenia will position itself with no predictablility or response to gravitational stimuli due to the absence of gravity.
