She knows they're not "bridges to nowhere." Alaska knows that. The rest of the country, specifically the feds who hold ANWR within their power, don't know that. But what, you think she was going to stand up in her Dayton, Ohio speech and spend three hours explaining all of this? Give me a break.
In the end, she did pull the plug.

Who wouldn't be for the idea of a bridge? When it came to light exactly how much it would cost and the damage it could do to Alaska's image as a state that can't be trusted (especially since Palin was trying to get the feds to trust Alaska to develop more resources) Palin said to forget the bridge. What about that is so hard to understand?

She was FOR the Bridge to Nowhere before she was AGAINST it?
You know what THAT means!
Nope, she was saying she GENERALLY in support of infrastructure projects in the state. No mention of the bridge.
Nice try.

willfully ignorant? As anyone in Alaska can tell you she campaigned in support of the bridge. She told people in Ketchikan that she was appalled they were refered to as 'nowhere' and that they weren't 'nowhere.'
Of course she hasn't been back to town since being elected.
and either way, her administration kept the money earmarked for the bridge. so the US taxpayers were hurt still the same.

"and either way, her administration kept the money earmarked for the bridge. so the US taxpayers were hurt still the same."
I can't find a single quote or cite from Sarah Palin where she stated she was categorically opposed to ALL earmarks...she's opposed to the ABUSE, CORRUPTION and WASTEFULNESS that often find there way into the earmark process. After she evaluated the bridge earmark, she concluded, rightfully, that it was WASTEFUL and killed it...good for her.

She did nothing of the sort. national press got on this issue and the bridge to nowhere was dead in the water in CONGRESS, not don by Sarah Palin.
People don't realize that the 200 million was not enough for the entire bridge. It was an earmark to *start* the project only, do surveying and prep work. When Ted and Don reported that there would be no money to follow to complete the bridge there was no point to spend the 200 million on the initial work. she's just plain lying on this issue.

Ted Stevens himself was asked whether Palin supported the Bridge - this is what the WAPO wrote about his response:
Stevens, who once threatened to resign his Senate seat in 2005 if $223 million for the bridge project was defeated, told reporters today that Palin was never a supporter of the project [...] "I don't remember her ever campaigning for it. As a matter of fact, she was very critical of it at the time."
And Stevens isn't exactly on friendly terms with Palin. BOOYAH! Case closed.

Stevens isn't going to say anything to hurt his party's Presidential ticket. He's a party line man. And of course indicted corrupt Senators never fudge the truth.
The fact is that people in Ketchikan heard Palin praise Young for getting the bridge money. I guess you can distinguish between voicing support and 'campaigning for it' like Stevens tries to do.
This campaign is going to suck as partisan right wing drones from the lower 48 try to tell Alaskans what Palin is like and has said.
