With over 30 part cabinet storage bins I had to come up with a way to have them all in one place and accessible at anytime. The real key is organization. I made up a simple database interface in visual basic to make finding parts I already have so easy. In each parts record there is a field for description, price, stock level and substitution notes. I can search for a specific part number, description or matching substitution notes. The idea was to use a little space as possible. It takes up only 76" by 38". The base is made of 2 x 4 lumber (you can't see in video). The lazy susan bearings from old television console is attached to base. The rotating portion on each swivel bearing is made with 2 x 4 lumber and very thin plywood and particle board. The whole thing makes life so much easier. One or two cabinets are just for recycled parts and the rest have new parts in them.

  • Cataloging all of that stuff must've taken ages!

  • Fascinating video. I am very impressed with your very creative system and your database software. I have a significant pile of components that could benefit from such a system. Are you willing to share the database software?

  • That is sick...I love it!!!! Don't you just love harvesting discarded equipment? Great vid!!

  • how to? that would really help me if you could make a step by step video
