Depicting Mirabai's love, devotion and longing.
What a beautiful clear voice and wonderful control. Rashid Khan of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana is an ustad of sargam and taankari. This one by him is certainly one of my all time favorites.
Amongst the best in India today, Rashid is also one of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi's favorite singers of Khayal. It appears that at one point Panditji said that Rashid Khan was the "assurance for the future of Indian classical vocal music". So true!
May he continue to make us all proud of our heritage.

As crucial as the singer and his saadhana and as crucial as Meerabai's blessing is the fact that this bhajan is in arguably the most beautiful of Indian raagas--Bhairavi. This raaga encapsulates the south Asian people's centuries old aesthetic and spiritual feelings. And then of course there is the glory of the Devta--Krshna--if one thinks of this song as a Mantra--its Rshis being Meera Devi and Rashid Khan Sahib; the Chhandas being Bhairavi Raag; and the Devta the peerless Krshna.
