Protected areas of Rwanda: Dr. Anastasie Gasago at Keene State College

First 9 minutes of Dr. Anastasie Gasogo's talk. Dr. Gasago is a professor in the Biology Department at National University of Rwanda (NUR), and Project Coordinator for the MacArthur Foundation project (the Conservation Biology Education Project) at NUR. She is visiting Antioch University NE (hosted by Dr. Beth Kaplin who is Technical advisor for the Conservation Biology Education Project in Rwanda) for one month as a Visiting Scholar. She is Burundian, but has been working at NUR for almost 10 years, and has a PhD from Belgium in Zoology.

Her interests are in entomology, butterflies especially, parasites, women in science, and she has served as advisor for student senior thesis topics ranging from primate feeding to ungulate behavior to HIV in humans. She teaches courses in Zoology, General Biology, Parasitology, Embryology, and Entomology at NUR. Anastasie Gasogo has many stories to share about her experiences in Belgium as a female African woman at a time when few women were obtaining advanced degrees from Africa (she raised 4 boys while in grad school); life in a country at war for 15+ years (Burundi is still engaged in civil war); women in science;15+ developing natural history and conservation biology programs in developing countries.
