  • This song is so freaking sad in context. And then, just for easy listening, it's an optimistic, almost inspiring song of the future.

Oh Sondheim. Always toying with my emotions. -_-

  • I am so in love with this show (and think it is VERY underrated). Thanks for posting, I love this song.

  • I almost got to own the original sign used for this show....long story. I saw the first and last preview. What a mistake replacing the lead. He was just fine, much better than Jim Walton. And Ann Morrison....an astonishing performance.

  • Merrily we roll along bro!

  • I want to be in this show sooooo badly. I would love to be apart of it- probably the most beautiful and poignant and sad and wonderful shows. Thank you Sondheim.

  • @PhantomDawg594 I had the amazing experience of watching my son in this show and sing this song with two of his best friends. I have never seen anything more beautiful and it reminded me powerfully of how much I love him. It made me think of his future, of what was ahead of him. He was only15 at the time. This song breaks my heart.

  • The older I get, the more this show speaks to me. I am incapable of listening to this song without weeping.

  • Oh joy! Why do I always come back to Sondheim to sort out my feelings :)

  • @jjarndyce yes - this has always been my issue, too. Not a Day Goes By is amazing, but we get the emotional gravity of it later, as we do in most of the songs, as the reference becomes more intellectual than emotional. I think song, in the backward telling, is the one that really works and does what it should, but you've had to see the whole thing to get there.

  • I can't understand why this hasn't been revived.

  • This is a tremendous tribute !

  • xD Ahh i found out last friday that this is our finale song for the Summer Concert xD

Because the lyrics fit in with the year 11 leavers xD ahh i love it!
