Love Nance explains her choice of Zinc for the bar at Annies new home. The 30 foot, custom-built zinc bar was installed by local craftsman, Nelson Shipply. Owners, Love Nance and Sherry Jameson wanted to recreate the feel of European bistros they have visited in their travels.
At the turn of the 20th century, the zinc bars of Paris were the local nerve centers for the creative and intellectual sect, inspiring the likes of Earnest Hemmingway. Today zincs are a special type of café or bistro found in great international urban neighborhoods.
Downtown Austin is about to be the next great city with a thriving zinc bar as it prepares for the June 18th opening of Annies, a new round-the-clock café and restaurant owned by the proprietors of Apple Annies. The new Annie will serve as a restaurant, gathering center and takeout hub for downtown Austins diverse and growing population.
