In January of 1997, a South Dakota woman named Karen Nelson found herself stranded in her pickup truck amidst a severe blizzard. After 30 hours of searching by rescuers on snowmobiles, the -70 degree windchill and zero visibility proved to be too great. However, a team of engineers 1,000 miles away at Nortel Networks in Richardson, TX were able to guide rescuers based on the strength of signals from her cell phone to her location. The group of 9 engineers including Ken Waltrip and Tom Okon were given a hero's welcome for their efforts.
