  • @ScientificPugilism Prove it.

Here's more: 2nd Century AD: Roman emperor Elagabalus is smitten by a male athlete named Aurelius Zoticus, whom he marries in a lavish ceremony.

1552: In the "History of the Indies," Francisco Lopez de Gomara documents men are marrying other men in the Indies (Caribbean Islands).

  • If Christians want a Christian nation (same goes to any other religion) go do it somewhere else. This is not a christian nation, even if it's influenced by it. America is a melting pot of cultures and beliefs. Where a white person may be serving a black, where a monk may exchange thoughts with a atheist, and where both, one, or the other may be wrong, right, or anything in between.

  • They say you cannot get an abortion, so those unfortunate women give birth to unwanted kids. Then they say willing and loving gay people cannot adopt these orphans that nobody wants, because they're gay and not a family. Then when they want the right for marriage and stability before the law, they are denied.

I HATE HATE HATE THESE MORONS.

  • *whiney voice* "We're talking about what's best for children, a mom and a dad...."

    - Give me a break, if you died would you want your kid to go to a loving gay couple or an abusive, predator of a man who lives in a dump?? Paws Up for gay marriage. : )

Interracial marriage stayed banned well after slavery. In the late 1800's covorture was in integral part of marriage in the U.S. where the wife yielded several of her civil liberties to her husband. Definitions change with time.

The comparison to blacks is very specific. There is a secular institution which a class of citizens is being deprived of due to private interest and animus. In both cases it is, and was, a direct violation of the 14th amendment.

  • @UltraProle21

anyway, completely irrelevant to the subject at hand. Civil rights aren't put up to a vote, thats the entire point of having a bill of rights. It's called a tyranny of the majority and we have protections against it. The "states rights" trope is a poor argument. Its the exact same argument that the south used to oppose desegregation.

  • @firstatheist haha it's "something that is in the works as we speak"? give me a break. i don't hear anyone complaining about this. this is blatant inequality, yet women don't seem to mind, because they don't have a problem not having to fight. "we have coed bathrooms all over the place, public and private." funny, the only coed bathrooms i've ever seen are porto-poties. bathrooms in schools, federal buildings, etc. are all separated.

  • @UltraProle21

11 year old aren't the equal to consenting adults and by definition can't enter a legal contract until they are 18. Women should be able to serve in the infantry, something that is in the works as we speak. We do have cooed bathrooms all over the place, public and private. Consenting adults are you're equals (assuming you are one) and deserve the same right to marriage that you take for granted.

  • The way I see it, interracial marriage wasn't banned stricly becuase of opposite skin color. Black children as slaves weren't allowed to read or write, suffered with their parents only to grow up to watch their own children suffer. You telling me gay people go through this. Interracial Marriage ban was issued to remind blacks what/who they were at the time in America. Killing negros was less of a crime than killing a horse.

  • @firstatheist so 11 year olds aren't treated equally. also, only men can be infantry in the military. that's not equal treatment of women. men and women have separate bathrooms, why? that's separate. is it not equal?

  • @UltraProle21

procreation irrelevant to legal marriages in the U.S. Obtaining a marriage license in any state requires absolutely no information on you ability or intention to have children. In fact anyone can have children at any time whether by in vitro fertilization, adoption, or out of wedlock, and its all legal. Gays have the same procreative rights as straights before and after gay marriage. Separate isn't equal.

11 years olds can't enter a legal contract.

    SS is a nestaid.

  • i want equal rights for children. 11 year olds should have the right to get married if they want to. i also want equal rights for people under 65 to get social security.

sounds idiotic doesn't it? gay relationships are not equal to straight relationships. it doesn't mean they're worse, it just means that straight people can generally have children, and marriage is about procreation more than anything.
