  • Thanks everyone for your honest opinions and perspective. As the female dancer in this video. I just loved the dance!!!!! Watching it after the fact and being in it, that moment improving to the music we were given. If anything you guys/gals should call me out on. It should be my balletic style. Cause thats what I am first and foremost a ballerina at heart who learned how to get funky and let loose with WEST COAST SWING!!!! LOVE YA!!! xoxox

  • I love how "ballroom" is used as a pejorative. (No, I don't really love that. I think it's pretty ridiculous actually.) They styled everything to match the music; I don't know what else one could want. It was appropriate and well done, imho.

  • So by calling this dance "ballroom" people are trying to say that it has a graceful motion across the floor, excellent posture and carriage, solid musicality and interpretation, a lot of sensitivity within the partnership, and a lot of elegant lines, right? An incredibly large number of champion and high all-star WCS dancers have ballroom backgrounds and there's a reason why.

  • @srobinson0: Fair Enough. Although, in the Ballroom groove, this song is too slow to dance Ballroom. At best, it would have to be a Bolero and More than Words is technically too slow, even for Bolero. I'm not saying that some people wouldn't try...But yes, in that direction, then the J&J jokey moves are quite unlikely.

  • @umbcBallroom Nah you've taken my snarky criticism of ballroom in the wrong direction - I only mean to segway from the "nice side of ballroom" comment onto criticism of the style of ballroom when faced with similar music. I don't at all mean to say that a ballroom dancer couldn't look that good, or switch between styles, but this song interpreted in the ballroom groove I think would look horrid

  • @srobinson0: Your comment is hilariously unfounded. Very few West Coast Swing (WCS) dancers started out in WCS. Almost all of us came in from other dance styles. Many All-Stars have Ballroom backgrounds. It's a shame you are more concerned with where people came from, then how pretty a performance was or how much fun it was in the moment.

  • Ah ballroom dancers would have ruined this song, with high intensity arm waving and poses to make up for their inability to improvise. Instead these two nailed it, with a beautiful balance of west coast smoothness and hitting the accents with some cool stuff too. And all without resorting to typical jack & jill jokey moves to make the crowd laugh.

  • it has a gliding on the dance floor quality to it. very nice.

  • This is epic.

No fancy/cool moves, just nice PURE DANCE. Ye, ballroom, but the nice side of ballroom. Not elegant or classic at all, totally leisure.

Today there is going to be a WCS party in my town. I did not plan to go, but seeing this dance changed my mind :-)

    So nice, thank you, dancers.

  • thanks Jaclyn!!! It was a really fun dance he is such a great leader!!
