This is a WW2 bomb being blown up near to Ardnave Point on the Isle of Islay. It had been washed up on the beach and required dealing with. I am told there was about 500lbs worth of explosives inside it. As you can see, it was quite an explosion. The shock wave was felt at least a mile away, I know this because a guy turned up about 5 minutes later with brown stuff running down his leg. He'd been sitting in his house minding his own business when he heard the almighty bang and then his windows nearly coming in!!! Awesome.

  • Yeah, I was surprised at the lag as I wasn't all that far away from it. We were being shouted at by the bomb disposal guys to get down on the ground because of the debris but the shock wave was incredible!

  • Interesting to see the lag between the explosion being visible and the sound arriving.

Looks like you were almost blown over by the shock wave? Or was that you taking cover from the debris?
