Griffel used a maglight to hit Jordan Carter in the face multiple times while he was subdued in the back of his police car. I have an exclusive interview with Jordan Carter.

There's some closure tonight for 18-year-old Jordan Carter who was beaten by Fremont County Deputy Brett Griffel last year.

Jordan just won a substantial amount of money in a federal law suit.

Last year we interviewed Sheriff Ralph Davis, "They were very profane, vulgar things, and the officer lost his temper and struck the individual that was under arrest."

And today we hear from Jordan Carter, who was arrested for under age drinking, "The officer Brett Griffel had his daughter in there with him, and I knew her, I knew her sister. Then her dad came back and heard me talking to her, and got upset I was talking to her. That's where the accuasations came from that I was making bad comments to her that I was swearing at her, none of that is true."

Jordan's lawyer, Dan Dummar explained why it's such a big deal, "Jordan was handcuffed securely in the back of a squad car. He was not armed, and he was not an immediate threat, and he was not fleeing, and he was not attempting to flee. Force is not permitted if the person is not violent, if the person is not a threat."

In the video I show where the officer's daughter was sitting in the passenger seat. There was a grill sepperatnig the two. Jordan was in the backseat handcuffed. Now when Deputy Griffel saw his daughter talking to him, pulled him to the side of the car, and starting beating him in the face.

"Yeah he came back and pulled me out of the police car, and hit me a few times and he hit me with his flash light," said Jordan.

You can see part of the damage on Jordan's face in this mug shot.

Jordan continued, "He hit me in the mouth area, it made my tooth go through my lip right up right here."

"It's important to note that these things frequently occur even in our back yard," said Dummar.

The maglight the officer used to hit Jordan in the face, was nearly 2 feet long, and weighed about 10 pounds.

"Officers don't have the right to go around and beat up citizens in our community at will," said Dummar.

Brett Griffel no longer has a job with the Fremont County Sherrif's office.

Deputy Brett Griffel pleaded guilty to battery charges last year, and according to court records was fined 500-dollars, given a year of probation, 60 hours of community service, and was ordered to complete an anger management course.

He now works for the county's road and bridge department.

  • the cop should be serving at least 5 years in prison. they are supposed to be the people held to a higher standard and expected to protect us. if an officer does anything like this, they should automatically get twice what an average citizen gets.

  • i hope that cop goes to jail
