Experimenting with thermite for the first time. We set a beer can on top of an old Seagate hard drive and a crappy scanner that didn't work.

  • is 50:50 ratio the best combination of rust and aluminum?

    It's easy to calculate if you know ANYTHING about chemistry. You find all the data you need for the calculation in the periodic table. Study chemistry...

    Rust is not very useful for that, it has too much other stuff in it then pure Fe2(III)O3.

  • you should actually measure by weight, rather than volume. 3 grams of aluminum powder to 5 grams of Iron Oxide. It comes out to around 50/50
