Hmmm... I'm thinking, what if you could build something similar to the Master System adapter, where the whole top of your genesis is transformed into basically a desktop synth. With an LCD screen and a few pots. And a tone test button. I'm not expecting you to use that idea. I just think it's plausible

So, truly, what is your plan here?
Are you planning on manufacturing something to let you control a megadrive with midi?
Or are you just going to publish some DIY instructions?
Because I would definitely buy something like a genesis cart with a midi input built in. It might be nice if it also had a stereo audio output directly from the YM2612, so you could have a clear output signal..

a) this video is for the sega master system :) b) yes I am planning to manufacture something c) a direct audio out is pointless from the ym2612, as the signal level is very very low (google 'sega sound comparison' for a page I made about the various models), however it depends on the model and the type of output. For example, for the sega mega drive 1, the headphone output is actually not too bad. For the sega mega drive 2, there is a mod called the CCAM by TmEE which adds heaps of clarity. :-)
