Anton Jones was born on the 3rd June1937 at Huftsdorp Colombo. He received his education at St. Sebastian's English mixed school. In 1959, he joined the legal firm Julius and Creasy in Hulftsdorp as an English Stenographer. In 1963, he joined the Bank Of Ceylon and was employed until his retirement in 1997.

His first radio programme with Radio Ceylon was in 1958 and sang ballades which were often meaniningful historical events that was loved by his fans. Through his uncle V.V. Kerner, an accomplished violinist, he was introduced to the God Father of Sri Lankan Baila, Wally Bastiansz, and played as a back up singer to Wally.
His first record was 'Mini Gawuma' a 45RPM on Philips label, released by the Gowri Corporation, owned by Patrick Corea.

He rose to popularity in the 70s and 80s through his songs about historic events such as DC8 Plane Crash, the tragic boat accident in river Nilwala etc. He has been a part of the Sri Lankan music scene for almost six decades and is still going strong. He is married to Iris and have two sons who are living in France and two daughters who are happily married.
