@VollyTyrannis The weak point of a Testudo was the behind, because unlike the front and sides the back was not protected. They could flank around the enemy and just slice em to bits. Testudos were a bit usless if you charge right into a enemy without archers or support. Testudos were used for defending, under fire by archers but mainly used to break a line the enemy formation.

whats the name of the movie please tell me!

Testudos, and the earlier Greek phalanx, were tactics used by heavy infantry to both defend and attack. The Spartans used their phalanx at Thermopylae to smash Persians; seeing a solid wall coming at you has more to do with morale than actual usefulness. Additionally, the Romans were so successful because of their testudos, because while Celts were very good individual fighters, they lacked shield walls. There are few weak points in a testudo; the best you can do is charge right into it.

@bayonet262 You wouldn't.

why would you form a testudo when charging at an enemy.

Since when do legions form testudo when you got a mob of people running at you...

Their cheekguards are too small. Oh, and testudo's only good to protect against missile troops.
@CrimsonGuard1992 Because they are supposed to be Auxiliaries not Legionnaires.
