As of 12:30 p.m., work continues on restoring power to 5,000 customers. Currently, the counties most impacted are Crawford, Madison and Saline. Crews will continue to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible. There are 750 workers engaged in the process with more than 150 new poles being installed.
Overnight, crews restored power to more than 20,000 homes and businesses. At one point Wednesday, there were outages in more than 60 of the 84 counties that Ameren Illinois serves. The Company began experiencing varying levels of outages at approximately 5 a.m. on Wednesday, when storms began moving into the Company's service territory, at which time service was interrupted to approximately 1,740 customers. Outages reached a high of approximately 9,400 customers at 9:10 a.m. but declined to approximately 2,120 by 11:40 a.m. and fell below 1,000 customers at approximately 4 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., outages began climbing again and by 6:10 p.m. the outage count had climbed to nearly 12,790 and reached a peak of 28,575 at 9:30 p.m. Crews have restored power to more than 72,000 since Wednesday.
Ameren Illinois' Emergency Operations Center has been activated since May 23 in response to storms impacting the service territory. Ameren Illinois employees and contrators have restored more than 103,00 outages since the EOC was activated.
