  • If he only made "Grand Illusion" and "Le Regle du jeu," Renoir would be still considered one of the grand masters of cinema. These two films - two of the top 10 to 15 or so ever made - are like the great masterworks of literature such as those of Dostoyevsky, Faulkner, Joyce, Hemingway, etc. The films are cut from the same high literary cloth as those great novelists. Fortunately, Renoir blessed up with many other films that could be considered great in one way or another.

  • wonderful ingrid and jean renoir a great director

  • thanks for posting that clip, she is so beautiful - inside and out and her star quality shines through

They just dont make stars like her anymore!

  • Back in the years when stars were real, not PR fabrications. What a great lady and actress.

  • @Jitpring I totally agree with you, it has class, it had glamour, it had intelligence, and some thing very important to talk about some great actress and actors of the golden era... Now oscar is like Cartoon Netwoork of bad taste!!!

  • Ah, this is when the Oscars still had some class.

  • Beautiful words from a beautiful woman!

  • Love this...thanks:D

  • She memorized it? impressive

  • Grand Illusion and The Rules of the Game are two of the ten or twenty greatest films of world cinema. Orson Welles said if he could save only one film, it would be Grand Illusion. Even though he was not present, his award was a highlight. How idiotic for the Academy to no longer televise the life achievement awards, as they "atone" for the Academy's annual idiotic decisions and reward true greats. The Oscars are not worth watching. Renoir films are.
