@916fanatic1 It really doesn't matter with diesel fuel. It's oil... so you could put it in the ground and suck it out 20,000,000,000 later and it'd be fine.

Now that its been 2-years, has there been any progress on the other three engines?

So,is the diesel fuel she is running on from ww2?or is it fresh fuel

Fell in love with submarines the very first time I watched " The Silent Service " on TV. Served aboard 4 diesel boats and two fast attacks. This love affair will last to the grave.

its beautiful the sound of the engine

Take her out and take her deep! Give that old girl a treat!

I love these old steel bins (great grandfather called them that, he served on the USS Cavalla (SS-244) ) I just love the sounds of these things......the history and technology (whereas the tech then was equal to a calculator in today's standards, it was amazing then, and still today) Great footage my friend, absolutely awesome.

sounds awsome. Great that it still runs after so long,
Fresh fuel?? Not exactly. But not WWII either. As far as progress on the others, we are ready to run #3, but have not put the oil to her. The others are a matter of time.

That's great! Another ww2 gato with a working engine. I live near the balao class USS Pampanito and they fired up her engines for the movie "Down Periscope" and also just for fun now and then.

Pamp is a great sister sub! And their Fairbanks Morris rock crushers are a marvel, not to mention the technical bookends to our GMs. BTW--you fell for the make-believe magic of Hollywood. At the time of the filming of DP (1995), Pamp's engines weren't running. The smoke and water were special effects in the movie. But they did it for real since! We need to get more of our rock crushers running!
