I'm sorry but this show sucked. Like people have said, the spoiler thing was a stupid idea, because they just kinda walk in midway though the game, and they can just chill there while the two players build up their podiums, then they answer the final clue right and steal everything. Plus, every single freakin game had absolutely no variation. No special surprises, nothing to switch it up. And the host was a robot. He managed to be precisely the same every single game.
So in essence, everybody involved was absolutely pumped up about a show that was cheaper than anything else on the air (except maybe "Temptation") and overwhelmingly-underwhelming.
In other words, you guys (production staff) were WAY TOO FREAKIN' OPTIMISTIC.
1:06 -- I don't recall negative scores being yellow.
1:10 -- That's why you never improved, and why each episode felt like every other one.
The show was horrible. Treadway was a robot, the budget/payouts made GSN look like a Hollywood blockbuster, there's no audience, and a Spoiler could take a nap and answer one single clue correctly to win the entire game.
Oh, and zero returning champions. THAT, more than anything, hurt the show.
1:42 -- More like obtaining the "Wha?" status of "Monopoly".
If by "long-term success" you mean one low-rated season and an endless supply of reruns, then sure, that's what it was. :P

The show should get a second season this fall. Crosswords needs to be ressurected.

Merv Griffin's Crosswords is probably one of the few good shows left on TV these days... I never miss an episode when possible!
R.I.P. Merv Griffin.

Merv Griffin was working on a couple of episodes before he died of prostate canser at the age of 82.

Well, of course, they have to refine the format. Ever since they fixed up the Extras thing, it has been a bit better
