Lilac Wine, Fanny Ardant et le Quatuor Ébène, 2010
Paroles et musique de James Shelton 1950
I lost myself on a cool damp night
Gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotised by strange delight
Under a lilac tree

I made wine from the lilac tree
Lost my heart in its recipe
Made me see what I want to see
Be what I want to be

But I think more than I want to think
Do things I never should do
I drink much more than I ought to drink
Because it brings me back you

Lilac wine
Is sweet and heady, like my love
Lilac wine
I feel unsteady, like my love

Listen to me, I cannot see clearly
Isn't that he coming to me, nearly here

Lilac wine
Is sweet and heady, where's my love
Lilac wine
I feel unsteady, where's my love

Listen to me, why is everything so hazy
Isn't that he, or am I going crazy, dear

Lilac wine
I feel I'm ready for my love
Feel I'm ready
For my love...."

  • In fact the CD, Fiction, has been produced in 2010 by a french string quatuor of classic music, the Quatuor Ébène,

They wanted to create new arrangements of old standards with four different singers : Luz Casal, Natalie Dessay, Stacy Kent and Fanny Ardant.

  • @clemnewyorker The version by Elkie Brooks for ME is the best. A U.K hit in 1978. Great singer.

  • @clemnewyorker

  • @Mtaupin

I"m french and I agree with you. For me, only Jeff buckley could cover this song. There isn't not enough and not too much in Jeff cover

  • Hey Frenchie's you loved Jeff Buckley, so you of course have good taste and know that he's the only one that sang/covered that gave this song what it really needed like every cover he did, get over it.

  • nice! why did she sing this song. has she recorded in the past?

  • @TheSonjaxfactor

    Thanks.

You look to love her very much.

    And she is so splendid.
