Awasome Lap of Montoya in Detroit.

  • NOTHING will EVER match the near-1,000 horsepower THUNDER and 18,000rpm scream of a 90's Turbocharged Champ Car!

  • @vuetube They didn't get anywhere NEAR 18,000 rpm. But you're right, no Champ Car or Indycar will ever be as good as the 90's CART.

  • Good lap !!!

  • oh! guauuuuuu

  • he was the best cart driver period he was a beast in 99 and 2000.

  • what a violent lap

  • @veedub87 I also think that a maximum of 200 kph for 4th gear seems reasonable. From watching the onboards it seems the turbo cars had very short gears for the first gears, then pretty long 5th and 6th gears.

  • @veedub87 I don't know the video you're referring to, but just about everything regarding the turbo engines has been exaggerated. Most numbers I've seen coming from technical f1 sites etc. are closer to 1200-1300 horsepower, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think that the "spins the wheels at a million mph" stuff is just as exaggerated. I think "spinning the wheels in 4th gear" is true, but not if the wheel is completely straight. Accelerating out of a corner it's true.

  • @Lolzilol123 I'm not suggesting this is not debatable. I will refer you to the BMW: Legends of Motorsport video that chronicles the engine development, however - '...and the engine was so powerful, it could spin the wheels right up to fourth gear so that we could only use full throttle above about 200, in fifth and sixth'. I didn't account for the fact that perhaps he meant 200km, but that's only 120mph, and they're not going to be in 5th or 6th gear(or even 4th) at such a low speed.

  • @veedub87 Just fyi, they used full throttle way before 200mph. Even with those quali engines, hitting 200mph was not something that happened on every track.

  • One of the best laps ever... Montoya is such a talented driver. Thanks for the upload.

  • those CART cars were so bad ass...
