Plenary discussion panel
Transforming policy to scale up green growth
According UNEP, redirecting just 2% of GDP towards green investments in key sectors will generate more jobs and wealth, reduce fossil fuel dependence, water demand and biodiversity loss while extending forestry and producing a more resource-efficient economy. To catalyse and secure the massive private investments needed for this, governments must invest public funds into R&D, infrastructure development and institutional capacity building. Yet, most governments have never been as indebted as now. This expert panel will debate high- leverage economic policies with transformative potential and put forward key decision points to be addressed in upcoming global multilateral meetings.
Moderator: Claude Fussler, Special Advisor for Sustainability & Innovation
Olav Kjørven, Asst. Secretary-General and Director, Bureau for Development Policy, UNDP
James Leape, Director-General, WWF International
Amb. NJ Mxakato-Diseko, Ambassador at Large: COP 17/CMP 7, Department of International Relations & Cooperation, South Africa
Peter Young, Chairman, The Aldersgate Group
