  • last time I saw a snowshoue hare was 63.1963 that is.

  • @7466309change They are actually Arctic hares up in The long range mountains. The snowshoes are at lower elevations and not as "tame" as the Arctic hares that will let you get very close to take photos :-)

  • @jsmallwood2007 oh but they look a lot alike.Do they turn brown in the summer?I think snowshoue hares are about exstint now.

  • @7466309change Yes the snowshoe turn brown and we have loads of snowshoes here on the island where they are the main food source of the lynx and also a traditional part of many a Newfoundlanders diet . ....The Arctics turn brownish grey during summer then snow white with black tips on their ears in winter and are MUCH bigger .They are not hunted here at all in their southern most habitat and are considered a protected species on the island to be shot only with a camera :-)

  • @jsmallwood2007 well I like the camera to use instead of the hunt to eat.Sounds nice.Do yours see Lynx?

  • @7466309change I still havent got a lynx on camera they are very sly..have only seen them a few times crossing an open area or the highway headed back for the trees

see all
