Classical music for Jazz fans, Jazz music for Classical lovers.

The BurgstallerMartignon4 (BM4) is a "Jazz Meets Classical/Classical Meets Jazz" crossover group whose inventive music has simultaneously ignited the excitement of Classical and Jazz fans alike. Based in New York City and formed in 2005, BM4's first recording, Mozart's Blue Dreams, debuted directly onto the JazzRadio Charts and was featured over 100 Jazz and Classical stations all across the U.S.

The BM4 is led by trumpeter Joe Burgstaller (Peabody Institute, formerly of Canadian Brass and Meridian Arts Ensemble) and pianist Hector Martignon (Grammy Nominee for his own solo albums in 2009 and 2011; formerly with Ray Barretto, Tito Puente, Paquito D'Rivera). They are joined by percussionist John Ferrari (Naumburg Award Winner, Meridian Arts Ensemble) and bassist Hans Glawischnig (Chick Corea, Ray Baretto).

All music in this video is from the BM4's new CD "Bach's Secret Files & More Crossover Fantasies", available everywhere from Summit Records (North America) and C.A.R.E. Music Group (Europe).

Selections are (in order):

1) The River of Night - J.S. Bach/Burgstaller, arr. Burgstaller/Martignon An Original Melody and Praeludium in C minor
2) Praeludium XI in F Major J.S. Bach, arr. Martignon [A Start To Something]
3) Variation No. 1 [Count's Insomnia in 7] - J.S. Bach, arr. Martignon/Ferrari
4) Aria from Goldberg Variations, arr. Martignon/Burgstaller

Trumpeter JOE BURGSTALLER has performed and taught in hundreds of cities throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, and has performed and taught at over 80 universities, conservatories and colleges around the world. He tours as a soloist, clinician and teacher, traveling the world with the goal of playing music to uplift the world. Joe has the distinction of being a former full-time member of both of the premiere brass groups in the history of their respective fields: Canadian Brass and the avant-garde Meridian Arts Ensemble. Burgstaller was also one of the all-time most popular soloists at Columbia Artists' Community Concerts, performing nearly 60 solo concerts each season with his Joe Burgstaller: The Rafael Méndez Project. He began the cornet at age six, by twelve was improvising jazz and soloing with area bands and at jazz clubs, and at fifteen was the youngest professional in the Virginia Opera Orchestra. Joe was awarded Arizona State University's Inaugural "Distinguished Alumnus Award" and the Inaugural "Outstanding Alumnus Award" from Eastern Music Festival. Mr. Burgstaller teaches at The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD) and is in his second decade as a Yamaha Performing Artist.

Pianist HECTOR MARTIGNON is a multiple Grammy nominee (most recently for his solo albums in 2009 and 2011) and has performed, recorded, composed, produced, and arranged music in a myriad of styles and genres for his own projects and for top musicians around the world. Hector has toured the world as a featured pianist with the bands of Tito Puente, Mario Bauzá, Steve Turre, Don Byron, Chico OFarrill, Paquito DRivera, Max Roach, and Ray Barretto. During his eight-year association with Barretto, Hectors contributions as pianist, arranger, and composer were fundamental in shaping the sound of the New World Spirit Sextet. He also collaborated as conductor, arranger, and co-composer in the production of many Broadway musicals including "Chronicle of a Death Foretold", Paul Simon's "The Capeman" (1998 Tony nominee for musical score) and "Selena Forever". His film and television credits include the Oscar-nominated film "Eat, Drink, Man, Woman" by Ang Lee, and spots for HBO Latino and Coca-Cola. Born in Columbia, Hector studied classical piano and composition at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany.
