Detroit: Incompetence in Chocolate City leads loses millions

DETROIT -- Not only is the state withholding aid to the city of Detroit for submitting the 2006-07 mandatory audit late, it will now cost the city an additional $2.4 million to pay for the 2005-06 audits that were submitted 14 months tardy.

Councilwoman Sheila Cockrell said at the end of the day, that's $2.4 million that could have been spent on city services such as fixing street lights and repairing potholes.

The announcement was made at the City Council meeting on Friday. The audit will now cost the city $5.7 million.

After the meeting, the former chief financial officer for the city, Roger Short, who stayed with the department until the new CFO Norman White took over told reporters that the amount grew because the city's outside auditor, KPMG, asked for new subjects to be examined because of new auditing requirements.

Short said the city should have been addressing the new requirements.

The city's finance department went from 500 employees to 300 in the last three years as part of budget cuts and had impacted the department's quality, added short.

"That creates a very difficult situation for us when we talk about laying people off by seniority and not by skill set," said Short. "That's how it works."

The Michigan Department of Treasury is withholding $35 million in state revenue-sharing aid from the city for not meeting the Dec. 31, 2007, deadline for the 2006-07 audit.

Short said the city has told the state it will submit its 2006-07 audit by Nov. 30.

The city of Detroit will receive more than $26 million in delayed revenue sharing payments from the state after submitting the 2005-06 audits more than 14 months late.

Yet the "education" system and pseudo journalism has ignored much of the information out there, and replaced the info with misinformation, slants, and absolute lies. It is the micro example of a once world class power that has fallen to 3rd world status, and yet the majority it seems of the rest of the nation tends to ignore this red flag, make excuses for it, or are niave or ignorant about it.

The decline is identical to California. They shut the water off to force relocations of the populations. LA and San Diego may feel the faultline soon.

Without knowledge, I would estimate that the GM HQ will be moved to another location. Possibly Ford as well under goverment advice.

Negros have never been warriors, and the negro purchased from African slave traders were the bottom of the barrel. They never got the guts to free themselves, the White man did it for him.

Africans never explored the world, never had a written language, never counted beyond 20, never domesticated an animal and their sole contribution to modern culture is Jenkem.
