@andybowe Before the knuckle coupler was invented, American railroads used the link and pin system where the switchman has to be in between the two carriages to be able to drop the pin through the link. It was a dangerous practice and switchmen have been known to lose a finger(s) or even a whole hand if they were not careful.

I think the electric WAP7 is an idegenous Indian product. Even the ones which are not are made in India

@dilipsetlur that's what it looks like ..

the Buffer and hook type used on passenger trains is much harder to accomplish then with american knuckle couplers or Russian ones all you do is open the coupler back the loco into the cars and its coupled and connect air hoses and your done, the british way is much more dangerous

WDP4 is a real Monster......the best Deisel Loco ever made......thx for posting....

Good video. Coupling is not easy with Diesels...especially because of their weight...more weight makes them require more power and at no load or when the loco is moving light without bogies, it takes off pretty easily. There is a term used for that jerky action on IRFCA, I forgot. Sometimes, certain amount of slopes on tracks makes this difficult. Ofcourse, this is what I know of my friends' dad who has been a motorman. I may be wrong. WDP4/WDG4 both are good additions to diesel arsenal in IR
nice video.one of the rare capture.succeed after 3 times.

question. I enjoy watching your railway clips from India.
does India manufacture its own locomotives such as WDP 4 or WDG3 or is it under licence from General Electric ?

Glad you enjoy the clips..Both WDP4's & WDG-3A's are built by Diesel Loco Works (DLW) at Varanasi, though 10 WDP4's (#20000 to #20009) were imported by Indian Railways from GM's Electro-Motive Department (EMD).

is WDP4 the strogest of all diesel locos in india?

Most powerful Diesel engines with Indian Railways is WDP4B (4500HP), only two of these units exist, and usually pull the GHY Rajdhani and Darjeeling mail. WDP4 is certainly one of the strongest with 4000 HP.
