Louis Mountbatten was not only Prince Phillip's uncle; he was an Admiral of the Fleet, a statesman, Viceroy of the British Indian Empire, Governor-General of the Independent India and a First Sea Lord. But in the summer of 1979, on a sailing holiday in the Republic of Ireland, he became the victim of an IRA assassination.
This documentary explores the events surrounding the bomb explosion, which took the life of not just Mountbatten, but his 14-year-old grandson Nicholas Knatchbull, a 15-year-old cabin boy and 83-year-old Baroness Brabourne.

  • @barrysteelchief "Collaborate with the enemy" what a piece of bullshit. Paul Maxwell was happy to have some extra pocket-money for looking after the boat. he was friend with the twin-grandsons of Mountbatten and his parents were happy for him to have friends and do something useful. Most of the people at Mullaghmore wanted to live a peaceful normal life - just like Mountbatten and his family did and so they got on very well

  • @barrysteelchief o, wow, hearken to the hero! You ever been in a real war, stupid?

  • @barrysteelchief Once again like in the previous segment, shut up read what I have written and let it sink in. Then argue with me. Cheerio.

  • Your ignorance shines through, as with many of the comments on this documentary. The IRA didnt kill mountbatten to be heroic, they did it as a valid act of war. The IRA and the irish in general had been subject to attacks of cowardice and the murders of innocents for over fifty years due to the illegal English occupation of Ireland at the time of the bombing. They understood causalities of war, and the duties of a soldier, and bravely carried out their mission regardless of personal consequences

  • Im english and it shocks me that anti-irish sentiment still runs so high. Personally im thankful the heroes of the IRA killed that nazi prick Mountbatten, its a shame he's the only royal they got, if only prince CHarles had been on the boat that day. Mountbatten died at war and his death was essential for the cause, sometimes innocents die in the process but i firmly believe the blood was on the hands of Mountbatten. The maxwells should have never allowed there son to collaborate with the enemy.

  • @scob62 I agree. I do not always agree with the brits, but this was a blatant act of cowardice. Killing innocent people especially older people and teenagers is not considered heroic. The man should've sun for planting that bomb instead of being released. I am saddended that the fight for Ireland involved acts of cowardice and murder of the innocents.

  • ALL BRITS OUT OF IRELAND.

  • gee the ira killed an Irish kid, what fucking heroes

  • Paul Maxwell will be avenged

  • Fuck the cowards in the ira, killing an old man a Hero, an old lady and 2 teenagers what heroes. The Battenbergs have that surviving ira fuck in their sights.
