I have uploaded this directly from my original 1986 CD entitled The Lover Speaks - these are the lyrics as they appear in the CD booklet. Annie Lennox later covered this song to high acclaim but I feel the original is far superior. I am planning to upload other tracks from the album soon. Hope you enjoy this lost treasure!

I love Annies for its big production and melody, but this is far more haunting and I now can see the true meaning & intent of the song, pure agony....im sure almost everyone has been there....its now my favorite

this song scared all the other 80s pop artis back then...this song is way too powerful! it really hunts you in a way that cannot be explained, but only understood, I guess you really gotta hear it when ur heart just got broken. or not, but it really has a hunting melody and is one in a billion songs of the 20th century

I love Annie Lennox. But this original version is better. Most if not all originals are always better.

Thank you so much for putting this on. Loved it when it came out. Should have been No.1. Fantastic singer , haunting melody. Bought this as a 12". Haven't heard it in ages. Kids nowadays may have all the gadgets,and unlimited access to evrything. But they miss the emotion, the raw power . TOTP xmas was a great example with what's gone wrong with music. Give me the 80's anyday.

Good, but nothing compared to Annie's rendition. I know people have an obsession with the original being the best, but Annie's has to be god knows how many times more beautiful. :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE....Haunting & beautiful! I used to listen to this album before I fell asleep at night. His voice is mesmerising [and even better with headphones on.] Thanks so much for downloading all of these... I no longer have equipment to play any of my cassette tapes. :(

This is 100 million times better than the Annie Lennox version. To me there is no comparison.
