I wrote this song on the porch of a cabin up in the Smoky Mountains shortly after the remnants of Hurricane Lee made it's way through the area. Record rainfall and the place was beautiful!
I built the Hoelle Harp Guitar in a small shop in the basement of my home. It's based on the Sullivan-Elliott instrument commisioned by John Doan in the 80's. It has 20 strings configured in 3 banks... 6 sub bass harp strings, 6 regular (fretted) guitar strings and 8 super-treble harp strings. It took about 10 months to complete and was finally finished and strung up in December 2011. This video was shot about a week later.
I hope you enjoy it!

Isn't it amazing that the aftermath of a devastating storm is so conducive to a calming song?

Lovely song Tom...and i'm sure only shades of many to come. I thought the instrument was really special...and then i read that you actually built it! That probably makes the playing part seem easy! Great job on all counts. Congrats!!

Nicely done! Given the title and the fact that you're in the South, I love the possible double-meaning/connection to Robert E., whether intentional or not.
