This is a very good soap. I use it all the time. It's very hard to find, but a Google search can turn up places that sell it online. Big Lots stores also seem to stock it along with the original green.
After seeing this old 60's commercials, I located this soap online and thought about trying it for hand washing here at the office. They also still make the green Palmolive bar soap. The green has a nice smell, but wonder what the gold smells like.
I guess CP wanted another successful line extension for the Veto brand, much as they had with Ajax cleanser/detergent/all-purpose cleaner at the time. However, cream deodorants were rapidly going out of style in the mid-60s (with the successful launch of Ban roll-on and especially with P & G's Secret). Arrid survived, but Veto and Mum were dying. So I guess CP hitched their wagon to the better-known Palmolive name...but Palmolive soap died when Palmolive dishwashing liquid came out in 1966!
That's interesting, because in the 1940s-1950s, the cream deodorant that Palmolive produced was called "Veto" (it came in a jar). I wonder why they decided to name one of their soaps "Veto," then changed course.
First time I've seen this one in years! I remember that furious bongo solo at the opening...and the funny thing is, Colgate-Palmolive was testing another deodorant bar soap, "Veto," at the very same time in the U. S. It was identical to Palmolive Gold right down to the color and fragrance. Palmolive Gold was the ultimate winner...
