Chrysler cooling fans are a common fault. However they can be a little puzzling to test. Review the electrical diagram before you begin and this should help you diagnose the system

  • I have this exact relay in my car under left headlamp. I have been trying to figure out how to test the "command" wire (lg/db) wire with an ordinary multimeter. since it is a pulsed ground could i test it with an ohmmeter?

  • HI ,YOU HAVE DIAGRAM FOR PONTIAC MONTANA 2000 I HAVE CODE P0480/P0341/P0134

  • Where did you get your tester?

  • how often do cooling fans burn on this model of van compaired to relay burning out??? ne 1 my cooling fans dont work on my 97 caraVAN and its a pain help!

  • Sorry, I really blew that post. Please remove the RIGHT headlamp. So sorry

  • I have been a certified tech for 45 years and I remember the chrysler has a solid state relay (as you have shown) but another model has the ss relay under and behinf the left front headlamp. It is very hard to get at. I have found that it is a lot faster to remove the right, sorry front headlamp assy. and with a 2" holesaw, drill a hole to the rear of the fiberglass rafiator support. Then you can reach the screws that secure the ss relay.

  • that a cool tetster were can i get one and how much are they

  • All because they used a solid state relay instead of a more rugged mechanical one.

The only reason they did that was so that they could control the fans with Pulse Width Modulation rather than a large ceramic dropping resistor. This is done by rapidly switching the relay on and off to control speed.

  • that's a power probe 3, awesome piece of equipment, have one in my toolbox at the shop!
