You remind me a bit of myself at that age, except I never did apply thermal paste. Truth be told, it's the one thing I still can't do very well, but hopefully the pea method will serve me well enough. I'm sure you already know to use isopropyl alcohol to wipe the surface clean next time. I just have one question: how on earth can you afford to make these PC builds? Now I'm working I can finally finance myself in what is, let's be honest, an absurdly expensive - though not unrewarding hobby!

Good job, not perfect but good enough! When i was your age i didn't even know what a computer looks inside, let alone do work on it so i think you are on the right track, everybody has to start somewhere and perfect along the way, no one is born smart!
